Performed by guitarist Stephan Kane & Luke Trimble Commissioned by the Paris Opéra and written in 1915 by Spanish composer Enrique Granados. "Goyescas" is an opera in one act and three tableaux, based on themes from his most famous piano suite. The onset of the First World War forced the premiere to be relocated to New York and was first performed at the Metropolitan Opera in New York City on January 28th, 1916. The success of the Met premiere of "Goyescas" led indirectly to Granados's death. He was invited by President Woodrow Wilson to perform a piano recital at the White House, causing him to postpone his return to Spain. Granados and his wife lost their lives on March 24, 1916 when their ship, the French steamer Sussex, was torpedoed by a German U-boat in the English Channel. Transcription for Two Guitars by Richard Pick Stephan Kane played a 2009 Eric Sahlin guitar. Luke Trimble played a 1991 Dake Traphagen guitar.
